Ten years of it

A personal project built from nothing into a travel publication with 1,000+ daily readers and a social community in the tens of thousands. Featured editorially by Skyscanner, Matador Network and Monzo.

I did all of it, in parallel, for a decade: design, development, content strategy, SEO and monetisation. Most portfolio pieces show a project at one moment. This is the same site carried through ten years of platform changes, algorithm updates and rewrites.

The blog post grid
The post grid. Ten years of content needs a structure that still works when there are hundreds of pieces in it, not just twenty.

The about section
Travel writing runs on trust too, so the about page puts the person up front.

The rebuild

Recently taken off a decade-old WordPress install and rebuilt as a static Astro site on Cloudflare. It loads almost instantly, costs next to nothing to run, and there are no plugins left to patch, which after ten years of maintaining the alternative was the whole point.

The same content, on hosting that stopped fighting it.

The site footer
The footer, rebuilt with the rest. Ten years of categories and archives still need somewhere to live.

What it's evidence of

Consistent content strategy and decent foundations compound. None of this happened in a launch week, which is the same argument I make to clients about SEO, with ten years of my own work behind it.
